Frida's passions

At Roselle Gallery, we are proud to present "Las pasiones de Frida" (Frida's Passions), a work where master Esteban Machado Díaz draws back the veil of history to reveal the soul of the most iconic couple in Latin American art: Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.

In this dazzling canvas, the artist transports us to a Caribbean paradise where love and heartbreak, fights and reconciliations, finally find eternal peace. Framed by the lush green of immense elephant ear leaves, Frida and Diego are presented to us in moving intimacy. He, the communist and radical muralist, observes her with unusual tenderness. She, the woman broken by physical and emotional pain but standing as an icon of resilience, dominates the composition wrapped in a fiery red mantle, a testament to their fiery and uninhibited romance.

The genius of this piece lies in the details that tell the true story of the artist. With her right arm, Frida protectively embraces Diego, but in her hand, she firmly holds a paintbrush. These are her true passions: the unstable but eternal love for her husband, and art, the lifeline through which she defended her identity and transcended history. To protect her on this journey, Machado Díaz paints a silver ring with an onyx stone on her finger, a powerful amulet meant to cleanse her aura and stabilize her tormented, yet magnificent, existence.
