My deep sleep
Esteban Machado Díaz
30x40 inches
At Roselle Gallery, we are profoundly moved to present "Mi sueño profundo" (My Deep Sleep), a masterpiece of extreme poetic sensitivity where Esteban Machado Díaz weaves a spiritual bridge between two immortal icons of our America: the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and the Cuban poet José Martí.
Inspired by Martí's profound verses—"I sleep in my bed of rock, my sweet and deep sleep... and the world grows in my body"—the artist gives us an unprecedented vision of Frida. Far from physical torment, we find her immersed in a sacred rest. Her bed, wrapped in sheets of crimson red and radiant gold, has been embraced by the exuberance of the Caribbean jungle. True to the poetry, the world literally and spiritually grows around her; vines climb the wood and leaves guard her on her journey.
Crowned with lilac flowers of deep spirituality, Frida's face radiates absolute peace. Above, in a sky where the light majestically breaks the clouds, a small winged heart takes flight. It is the candor of her spirit freed from earthly ties, the final fusion between overcome pain and eternal dreams.
