Dinner among friends

At Roselle Gallery, we are proud to present "Cena entre amigos" (Dinner Among Friends), a monumental painting by Esteban Machado Díaz that transcends the barriers of time and geography to invite us to the most fascinating banquet in the history of Latin American art.

In this masterpiece, the artist transports us to a magical evening set against a vibrant Day of the Dead altar, a festivity that unites the soul of Mexico with the respect for the faithful departed so deeply rooted in Cuban culture. The table, overflowing with offerings of fruits, marigold flowers, and traditional breads, serves as a meeting point for spirits who left an indelible mark on the world.

With Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera as hosts and the center of this universe, the composition brings together a pantheon of friends and universal geniuses: from divas María Félix and Dolores del Río, to the heartbreaking voice of Chavela Vargas, to titans of the visual arts such as the Cuban Wifredo Lam, Picasso, André Breton, and Jacqueline Lamba. They all converse, smoke, and pose under a mystical purple sky.

Machado Díaz's genius shines in the landscape that embraces these guests: a perfect fusion where Mexican cacti coexist with the tall royal palms of Cuba. It is a celebration of identity, love, and friendship that unites two sister lands through art.

At a table with offerings of flowers, bread and fruit, Frida meets with figures of Mexican culture and universal transcendence, among them Diego Rivera, María Félix, Chavela Vargas, Dolores del Río, Picasso, Wilfredo Lam, André Breton and his wife Jacqueline Lamba.

The dinner among friends takes place in an altar in allegory to the Day of the Dead, an event that is part of the Mexican cultural identity, which also coincides with the celebration of the faithful departed in Cuba.
