"That sense of transcending the work is like a very low whisper, time will tell what will really transcend the work"

Alicia de la Campa Pak

1966. Havana, Cuba

Painter, Drawer, Engraver, and Illustrator

About

Alicia’s work has innumerable influences which makes it challenging to pin-point what we might call “the original being” of her craft. One thing is certain, she is firmly ensconced in the splendor of Cuba’s context and tradition. As a contemporary Cuban artist, Campa Pak sees her work as an essential vocation in the tradition of Marti and Lezama. In fact, the artist sees her craft as an essential and inevitable destiny as a Cuban artist.

Is this very splendor with its vast mix of expression–from plastic arts, literature, speech and Cuban music. These elements not only enrich her creative world, but become an essential part of her work that express the whole of the Cuban experience. Campa Pak weaves a new world mixing baroque and surreal foreign influences all while maintaining Cuba’s particular sensuality and insular sensibility.
